Dawn to Dusk • Jason Wu Makeup Fall 2011

"It's Versailles pulled into the modern world.  A vibrant gold highlight amidst a deeply shadowed eye gives a baroque twist to a simple look."
- Diane Kendal, MAC
This is a look that is very simple to achieve but with amazing results.  I tried it at home with deep purple and golden eyeshadows.  I applied the deep purple eyeshadow all over the upper lid - the same way I would do a smoky eye.   After I applied the golden eyeshadow over the center of eyelids for the jeweled effect.  Ta-da!

Alexander McQueen F/W 2011 • The Ice Queen and her Court

I am in love with this show.
The name - "The Ice Queen and her Court" - is clever and adds a certain royal aura to the event.
The venue - Marie Antoinette's prison - embodies McQueen's spirit.
And the clothes... The bondage ladylike cut, the different textures
- from fur and leather to tweed and broken china(!).

If there was any doubt about the McQueen's legacy, we have the proof that it's alive and well.
Thanks to Sarah Burton.

My English vocabulary being limited, I will let Style.com describe this stunning collection.
- Marie
"Sarah Burton definitely isn't shying away from the weight of legacy she's inherited. Her venue was La Conciergerie, Marie Antoinette's prison and the site of an Alexander McQueen show that was made memorable by the presence on the catwalk of live wolves (doped-up wolves or perhaps just some particularly lupine dogs, but still). No such threat of danger tonight, though the crackling neon lights were a reminder of McQueen's asylum show and the theme—"The Ice Queen and her court"—had the suitably chilly ring of a vintage McQueen ritual. The collection furthermore drew on what the show notes called "heritage silhouettes."
What this all boiled down to was Burton skimming off the top of her vast reconceptualization of the house aesthetic to produce three dozen couture pieces reflecting that aesthetic at its purest. Literally. As in white-light burning bright. In the frenzied backstage press of congratulations, the designer could barely gasp one word to define her intent: "Icy." But it wasn't really that cold. What Burton designed had a blurry-edged softness, which came from the fur that lined hems, cuffs, and shoulder seams. The material wrapped the skirt of a drop-waist halterneck dress or swathed the hood of a sleeveless sheath. And when it wasn't fur, it was frayed, streaming organza that blurred the lines.
It felt much more like Burton wanted to remind the planet that she isn't channeling the McQueen DNA, she is the McQueen DNA. Hence, those heritage silhouettes with their buoyant trains of silk organza or undulating threads of tulle or the harnesses that evoked such deliberately troubling associations. The most (quietly) spectacular piece was a gown with a body collaged from broken china, which erupted into a froth of organza. "

As if this post wasn't already overloaded with content, I'm including a recap of the show!

LADYLIKE • F/W 2011

This look is perfect for the office.  It's feminine, classic and elegant.
It has also a retro vibe that recalls the refined and polished look of Old Hollywood.
If you like this style - but don't know how to wear it - start with a pencil skirt.
You will be surprised how different your old tops will look when worn with a pencil skirt.

If you want to see how I wear a pencil skirt, I found 2 examples.
The first look (see picture here) is very classy and sophisticated.
If you look closely, you will see that the top is very simple
and that it's the skirt that give the outfit its sophistication.
The second look (see picture here) is a perfect work outfit.
I kept it age-appropriate and fun by mixing fuchsia items with a conservative suit.

Below, I selected a couple of items that would add a ladylike touch to any wardrobe.

Rose Byrne in Muse Magazine

It is my belief that Rose Byrne is one of the most beautiful and feminine celebrity out there.
The Australian actress sports classic and elegant looks in this spread for Muse magazine.
I especially love how they styled her hair.
