I'm Responding to Your Comments

Hello!
I have been thinking about how to improve the communication with you guys for a while.  I receive a lot of cool comments, suggestions and questions that I would like to reply to and share but I couldn’t because of the lack of options with Blogger.  During my vacation, I came up with the idea of writing a post each week as a letter to you guys.   I don’t want your comments to die after I read them – I want the conversation to be alive between us.  I hope you will enjoy this new feature.

 Happy Birthday to Me!
I would like to thank Heidi, The Latina Blogger, Terri, Mademoiselle Lala, billyCaro P. and L for their wonderful birthday wishes. I would like to wish L a happy birthday because she mentioned in a post that her birthday was on the 20th, a day before mine.

 JEAN PAUL GAULTIER / Retrospective
Terri  and  Caro P. asked me if I would get the chance to see the Montreal exhibition of Jean Paul Gauthier in person.  My sister lives in Montreal and I will be visiting her during the Labor Day weekend.  I hope she will agree to visit the exhibition with me.  I know fashion is not really her cup of tea but I think it would be a fun activity to do together.
If you live in the Dallas area, Mad For Fashion shared with us that the Dallas Art Museum will also have a Jean Paul Gaultier in November.

JEALOUS [of The Blonde Salad]
FEEDBACK • Jealous [of The Blonde Salad]
Do you remember these 2 posts I wrote a couple months ago?  I still get comments for them and I would like to share them with you.

By Emma : « I know a lot of people who have blogs, including myself, who feel under severe pressure to keep up to these super-bloggers, and get really upset over a lack of "success". But today you have inspired me to say that success isn't measured by how many mundane comments saying "omg your so lucky" or "your so pretty" like some bloggers get, but in fact, success is measured by people who genuinely read your content and enjoy it. I don't personally dislike any of these mega-bloggers, but they do put unnecessary stress on regular people. I do actually read the blogs, and in the end they can be very depressing, but for some reason continue to read. I never comment though. Because I know my comment won't be read. I know you will read this and appreciate my input. I just wanted to let me know that reading your post was the most inspiring thing I have done all day.”

By K Wilk : "I agree with all of the above, but I must add some things. One, it's easy being stylish when you are given things and you do not mind spending rent on a particular shoe/bag. It takes a REAL stylista to style up a $20 dress and $5 accessories. Two, I abhor that website simply because it takes forever to load and is not laid out very well. Three, while I do not know these 'super-bloggers' personally it's simply vulgar to be that vain. Four, I am quite jealous of her incredibly cute Frenchie. ;) Chin up, the more perfect it seems, the worse it is behind the scenes.”

*Thank you ladies for taking the time to write a comment and to keep the conversation going on the subject.  When I wrote this post, I wanted to talk about the negative feeling that is jealousy but in a positive way.  I wanted to acknowledge my jealousy but also understand the underlying causes of it.  I am glad that so many of you supported me and expressed their visions on the subject.

My Lookbook 2011 • No. 8
A lof of you guys commented on this outfit but also on my necklace.  I tried to find necklaces that looked similar for less than $100 but it was very hard...

Mademoiselle Lala commented that the “grey wall is a fantastic background to make pictures”.  I was afraid that it was too plain.  The problem is that I have new neighbours who are always hanging out in the backyard and I am too embarrassed to take pictures in front of them.  I tried to find other locations but because of my using a tripod I also end up in very embarrassing situations.

My LYKKE LI Obsession
januarysublime.com wrote that her favorite Lykke Li songs are 'Tonight' and 'Everybody but me"  which are from her first album - Youth Novels.  She asked me if I can suggest good ones from her new album - Wounded Rhymes.  I like all of her new songs but if I had to choose I would choose Love out of Lust, I Follow River, Rich Kids Blues and Sadness is a Blessing.  I included the links for the 2 albums on Amazon.com if you want to listen to previews.

Caro P. took the opportunity of my introducing my new favorite singer to make a suggestion of her own: Dead Man’s Bones ( Dead Man's Bones)  One of the members of this band is Ryan Gosling.   Very good stuff!  Thanks for the suggestion Caro!

JEAN PAUL GAULTIER / Retrospective

From June 17th to October 2nd 2011, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is hosting an exhibition about Jean Paul Gaultier titled The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier /From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk for his 35 years of career.  The exhibition is described by the New York Post as "a triumph" and Elle France writes that it's "a phenomenal retrospective on the great French couturier…this exhibition presents everything we love about his work in a definitive and brilliant fashion."
I decided to pay hommage to Gaultier too - with a post dedicated to him.  I looked at his last 20 collections for women -  from 2005 to 2012 - and picked the most original, extravagant and feminine pieces.  Gaultier is a true artist and one of the few that still have a couture collection.
Enjoy!

"From men in skirts to Madonna's infamous conical bras, Jean Paul Gaultier's innovations have always pushed the conventional boundaries of fashion. In 1970, Pierre Cardin hired the 18-year-old, who had no formal training, after he received some promising sketches in the mail from him. Six years later, Gaultier launched his womenswear collection in Paris. His work has been described as "Frencher than French," and indeed there is an extreme enthusiasm and provocation in his clothes that can occasionally verge on caricature, though it is always married to exceptional technique." Style.com

"In addition to womenswear, the house produces menswear, accessories, fragrances, and, since 1997, a couture collection, which may just be the designer's finest contribution to fashion. Heralded by the press as the "savior" of the dying trade, Gaultier wowed the industry with the imaginative and technical prowess of his fantastical designs. Dubbed the successor to Yves Saint Laurent, he not only took over the couturier's closing time slot during the shows but inherited Saint Laurent's best clients, including Catherine Deneuve. In 2000, the CFDA presented Gaultier with the International Award. Three years later, he assumed the post of creative director at Hermès, succeeding Martin Margiela." Style.com
The Hermès Spring 2011 collection was his last for the fashion house.

My Lookbook • The Abstract Print Skirt

It was love at first sight when I saw this skirt in the Mexx store.
I love the artistic abstract print - like a painter splashed paint on it.
The material of the skirt is very thick - almost like a painting canvas.

The colors of the print are off-white, black, grey and purple.
It's too bad that the purple looks almost black on the photo.
I am also wearing a cute bow in my hair but we can barely see it.

I wore this outfit to work yesterday.
