I love tights.
They can carry any boring outfits.

My personal favorite is the emerald green tights worn my Georgia Jagger.
I really need a pair like these.
The polka dot tights also have its charm.
The destroyed tights would add an edge to my style as wished in THIS POST

Here are some other interesting tights for fall.

Look of the Day - Purple Flower

- Vintage dress - Target shoes - Flower Picture : Fiftyflowers.com -

This is the dress I told you about.
I love it, especially the top part because there is not a lot of dresses cut like that.
And the print is not polka dots but little hats.  How cute is that?!

I always wondered why it was called polka dot.
Let's see what Wikipedia has to say about it.
"An early recorded use of the term "polka dot" is in 1873 in Godey's magazine. The pattern is named for the dance of the same name, but there is no conceptual connection linking the pattern to the dance. Instead, the name was settled upon because of the dance's popularity at the time the pattern became fashionable."

Well, that was interesting!

The shoes I'm wearing were on sale for $13.
I bought them during my summer vacations in Miami last year.
Love the way they cut the leather.

About the flower, I just tried a little montage.
Hope you like it!

Harper's Bazaar Singapore - August 2010

Have you seen what is on the newsstands these days?
I was looking for an inspiring editorial but all I found was more black eyeliner, more beehives and more retro looks.
Don't get me wrong, I love a retro look but right now I feel like I am going to be sick if I see another one.
All the fashion magazines have the same take on the retro 60's look.  It is so booooring!

This one is different though.
Retro meets futuristic meets Marie Antoinette.
Thanks for a breath of very much needed fresh air!

About last night...

To complete my self-indulgent day

This is what I ate...(and drank)
I usually drink white wine with sushis but red is all I had left.
If you wonder if I made the sushis myself, I didn't.
I am the worst cook ever. In fact I gave up cooking a couple years ago.
My oven doesn't even work!

This is what I watched...
This video always make me smile.
BTW the woman at the beginning is Bono's wife.

While I was at it, I watched this video too...
Very romantic, black & white, great storyline, amazing cinematic experience.
"You're in my mind all of the time, I know that's not enough"

I bought these 2 dresses on Etsy.
Can't wait to show them to you.

Look of the Day - New Hair Color

- Mexx dress - le Chateau heels -

There is nothing like a new hair color to get your groove back!
I had been blonde for 5 years and today at exactly 11:30AM that was enough.
I couldn't bear another minute with this hair color.
So I just walked into a hair salon and asked if a hairstylist was available.
I don't torture myself over the color or the cut, looking at a thousand magazines before going
I used to but not anymore.
My lover didn't even know...but he loved it.
What about you? What do you think?

Look of the Day - The Blogger Blues

- Thrifted blue shirt - Vintage blazer - Smart Set grey pants -

I am sooo hormonal today. Squishing a bug would make me cry.
To make matters worse, I have the Blogger Blues.
You know, when you feel you are not creating anything special and your style looks like shit.
To add to my tragedy I lost 2 followers over the weekend. I am ready to jump out the window.

This post is for all the bloggers who want to feel sorry for themselves!
I really need some company!

Have a nice Monday everyone!

PS I am sure that you figured out that this photo was not taken today....I look way too happy!

Joan Jett & The Runaways

I watched The Runaways last night and loved it! Kristen Stewart was phenomenal in her portrayal of Joan Jett.  She had everything down from the slouchy guitar playing to the tomboyish manners. She was so beautiful and sexy but also tough and aggressive like she might punch you in the face if she didn't like you.  Is there anything sexier than a girl playing electric guitar in a very aggressive way ?

This was recorded in 1977. Joan Jett was 19.

Look of the Day - Bugs & Insects

- San Francisco black skirt - le Chateau white purse - Spring black bootie - Walmart scarf -

This is what I wore last Friday
My sister was visiting last week from the big city - Montreal.
I still live in the small town where we were born.
We had a blast!

Let me introduce you my baby sister!
This is not a joke she was really chasing bugs...sorry I mean insects.
And yes, we have the same parents.
We could not be more different.
Let me tell you that it makes some very interesting conversations at the kitchen table.
Fashion blog and herbarium!

Love you Mimi!

Look of the Day - Strike the Pose

- Smart Set grey pencil skirt & green top - Walmart leopard scarf - Spring blue pumps - Vintage brooch -

This is what I wore on Monday.
I love green but it is not an easy color to wear.
The green reflects on your skin and gives it a very unflattering shade.
Even when you've had your beauty sleep, you look nauseous.
My tip : Put something between the green and your face.  Like a scarf.

Vogue China - September 2010

I would die for any of the outfits in this editorial.
Especially for the Dries Van Noten green jacket in picture no.3,
The Jason Wu chiffon/tulle dress in picture no.6
The Dolce & Gabbana polka dot dress and Prada pumps in picture no.7,
And her flawless, shiny, retro-styled hair in all the pictures.
Enjoy!

Look of the Day - Pebbles Flintstones

- Jacob beige dress - Mexx black blazer - Aldo sandals - Walmart bow -

This is what I am wearing right now.
I bought the bow at Walmart for $2!!
I was afraid it was a little bit too costumey but now that I see the picture I really like it.
The beige dress isn't the most stylish thing I own and the bow makes it more fun.
It has a 50's vibe and you know how much I love a retro look!

Someone from work told me I looked like Pebbles Flintstones...
I'm sure it was not a compliment...but it was funny though!

Look of the Day - The Prom Dress

- Black dress - Vintage red belt - Spring blue shoes - Vintage purse -

This is what I wore to work yesterday.
I've had this dress forever - more than 10 years.
It was a gift from an ex-boyfriend and used to be long - down to my ankles.
I had never really worn it because the dress looked too formal.
Indeed. My sister borrowed it for her prom.
Last year I took it to the tailor and had it shorten.
Don't you love it when you give a second life to old clothes- or still new in this case?

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

On December 8, 1995, Jean-Dominique Bauby - age forty-three and editor-in-chief of the world-famous fashion magazine Elle - was living the "good life" to the extreme when he became the victim of a devastating cerebro-vascular accident.  He awoke from a coma 20 days later to find himself the victim of locked-in syndrome - mentally alert but a prisoner inside his own body, his only means of communicating with the outside world the blinking of his left eye.
At the Marine Hospital of Berck-sur-Mer in northern France, Bauby learned to communicate with the outside world using his left eyelid, the only part of his body over which he still had any control. This alphabet unlocked the prison of Jean-Dominique's body which he called his Diving Bell and travelled the borderless regions of freedom that he called The Butterfly.
During the next fourteen months, using a communication code developed by his therapist and his publisher's assistant, who transcribed this code, Bauby was able to compose, letter by letter, a lyrical and heartbreaking memoir of his life struggle. Bauby died in 1997, two days after its publication.
The movie is based on his memoir and was released in 2007

Look of the Day - I Heart Pencil Skirts

- le Chateau beige skirt - Dynamite purple top - le Chateau taupe pumps -

This is what I wore last Thursday to work.
I looove pencil skirts.
I like the fact that they are very sexy, yet modest at the same time.
The hairdo gives the outfit a 60's vibe.

Interview with YOUTHAGAINSTFASHION

Francesco is one of the first people I encountered when I joined Chictopia and remember looking at his photos thinking he was sooo cool. Months later, I still think the same thing and that's why I asked him to be featured on my blog. Luckily for me, he said yes!

Francesco - know as YOUTHAGAINSTFASHION - is a stylish Photography and Graphic Design teacher who lives in Florence, Italy. Since February 2009 he has posted more than 100 looks on Chictopia and has now over 300 fans following him. His style is very unique and inspirational. He mostly dresses in black, grey and white - his signature look - but somehow looks completely different everytime. Some people might think black is boring but he proves - like Coco Chanel said - that black is the only true color.
1. How long have you been blogging on Chictopia and why did you start?
I had known the community for a while and I usually visited the site to look for inspiration, but I never thought about posting my own pictures. During that period I was working on my very last school project about fashion photography. I “modeled” for my own photo shoot, wearing some of my favourite outfits and I thought I could share them on Chictopia. Once I started, I kept uploading my looks. I love the community a lot.

2. In general, what is fashion to you and what does it mean in your life?
For me, fashion is a very pleasant game; I enjoy thinking about my outfits, dressing up every day. I think I’ve always been interested about my personal look, the way I appear. That’s something that has been developing through the years. But I wasn’t so aware of fashion world until three/four years ago. I’ve always been fond of Arts. Later I discovered that fashion could be an art form as well.

3. Were you stylish growing up or were you a late bloomer?
I’d say a late bloomer.  I didn’t take many risks at first.  I dressed a lot in black and grey, always trying to make a very balanced outfit, both in shapes and colors. Then I wanted each of my outfit to have an element a bit off the rails, that could balance my classic/plain looks. I played a lot with ties, all kind of ties (I love them) and accessories like pins, brooches or bracelets. Only recently, I’ve been trying to add some colors to my outfits -  it’s something I’m still working on!

4. What is your earliest childhood/teenage memory about fashion?
When I was a teenager I used to make fun of people who were wearing big fashion names, like Dolce&Gabbana, Gucci, Burberry etc. I thought it was useless to buy such expensive clothes just to show off the brand, especially if the dress, the shirt or whatever didn’t fit your body or style. Later I’ve understood that some of those fashion designers work hard, some of them make pieces of art, and then it’s up to “common” people to play with those pieces. I was really YOUTHAGAINSTFASHION.

5. You are a fan of Vivienne Westwood, what do you like most about her and her work as a designer?
She’s wonderfully crazy and creative. I love the fact that she started her career with a very open attitude. She wanted try new things, to spread and share some ideas, and she made some fashion statements that live till now.  She balances being a woman, an artist, a business woman and it's something I like about her. Beside this, I’m always amazed by her creations.  Sometimes she goes over the line, but I love her even for this.

6. Do you already have an idea of what you’re going to wear this fall?
I’d love to try new colors. I’ve already seen some pieces from brands such as H&M or Topman that I’d love to wear. I’ll keep remixing my old clothes with new ones - it’s something that I enjoy a lot! And I’ve just bought a Vivienne Westwood jumper that I’m looking forward to wearing.

I would like to thank Francesco for this interview.

Look of the Day - Girl Scout Chic

- le Chateau black dress - Vintage blue scarf - Vintage Gold brooch - Spring blue shoes -

This is what I wore yesterday to work.
I invented a new style : girl scout chic :)
There is something about the way I tied my scarf with the gold brooch that reminded me of them.
The scarf is a birthday gift from my sister and I am obsessed with it.
You've seen it already HERE.

It's weird how dark my hair looks in this photo.
