How to get ready for fall - Part 1

GETTING STARTED...

1. Check out the summer sales.
Go shopping one last time for summer clothes - you might find good bargains. After September 1st, don't buy any more summer clothes. You will spend your money on items you're not going to wear - or maybe just wear once or twice - and next summer you will already be tired of them.

2. Clean and reorganize your closet.
I was off on Monday and this is what I did. I bought more hangers and a 6-shelf sweater bag for storage. You don't need a whole day to reorganize your closet, just an hour. Put in storage any clothes you haven't worn in the last 6 months, but don't throw anything away yet : you might like some of these clothes again in a year. Put together the skirts, the pants, the dresses, etc. to have a good visual idea of what you have and what you need. If you have 10 white shirts, it is time to try something else.

3. Get insprired.
Inspiration is the key, especially at the beginning of a season. Check out blogs, fashion magazines, editorials and fall/winter collections online to figure out what fabulous items are missing from your closet.

4. Make a list.
If you are very organized, you might want to make a list of items.  This will keep you from making an impulse purchase that you will never wear. You should not buy something that doesn't fit with the style of the other items in your closet.  If you want to try a new style, buy accessories that will fit with your current clothes and give them a new vibe. For example, for a more bohemian look you might want to buy long, flowy scarves, rings and bracelets that you can pile up instead of buying new pieces of clothing. This is a safety net in case you grow tired of the new look - accessories will be less expensive than a whole new wardrobe.
